Rush of Fools Review
By: Cameron Conant
Rush of Fools doesn't reach lofty heights on its latest effort, but credit the boys for trying. Early on, the band sets its course for outer space on songs like "Holy One" and the title track, "Wonder of the World"—ethereal, spacey guitar noises abound on both—but the band doesn't stay there.
They descend to offer listeners several stadium-rock anthems with big guitars that, in their better moments, sound worthy of packing out an arena, though at less inspired intervals, sound like Nickelback. "Escape" is an epic, emotive rock song that's pretty good, while "Lose It All" is glam rock-meets-U2-meets-Green Day—and it mostly works.
The band really finds itself when it descends once again—this time from the stadium stage—and hits the studio with a quieter, mid-tempo, pop-rock number, "Never Far Away," which brings to mind Jars of Clay.
