Church Sex
Sorry it's been so long on a post, guys. We've had some personnel changes around here and life has been a little crazy. Anyway...
I came across an interesting blog post this morning about the recent rise in "sex sermons." If you're not familiar with this, many churches, especially ones with younger congregations, are creating series of sermons dealing with sex and all the issues surrounding it. They're also promoting these things without shame (read more here). Granger Community Church developed an entire Web site to promote it, mylamesexlife.com (which my internet filter at work is currently blocking). Of course, this approach has created a legion of critics, which is what the author responds to in that first blog post.
While I think he dismisses some legitimate objections a little too quickly, I do agree with the author's main point that this is a topic on which the church can no longer be silent. With the proliferation of sexual sin in our culture, we need to be able to deal with this topic in the open, not just during our accountability time. Is it uncomfortable? Yes. Can it be exploited? Yes. But is it essential for proper understanding and healing? Yes.
In order to fight a war that the enemy is currently winning, the church needs to have the proper ammunition.

Great blog to post! I agree that this is an issue that the church MUST address because I feel we are coming to an age where parents are scared to talk about sex with their children.
Growing up I remember once talking about sex with my parents and even that was a quick "birds and the bees" conversation. If these churchs are going to preach on sex I pray that they have a bible study classes that are being taught on a smaller level to answer many questions everyone has. If not a class for the masses, at least have materials to help equip the parents for questions and topics they can talk to their child about.
I commend those churchs for acknowledging the world around them and fighting the sin we all know to well.
It is past time that the Church
addressed this issue, the Church
as been negligent. I can remember
when I was attending Church, I can
remember people in Church who were
not married, and they were having
sex, I had no understanding of the
Bible, and I grew up thinking that
it was normal to have sex being
unmarried. My friend told me that
his mother said it was against the
teaching of the God. I did not
believe it. There were so many
professing Christians doing it and
having babies out of wedlock and
nothing was ever said in Church!
I needed to hear that it was a
sin from a man of God. I found
such a person, and I came right out and asked him if it were acceptable for an unmarried Christian man to have sex. He said "NO!" He told me where it
was in the Bible. I repented of it and have never done it again.
But I needed to hear it from a man
of God.

Actually there is no where in the Bible that says it is unacceptable for a unmarried man to have sex. That concept was a creation of Augustine.
